Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning light

OR

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the ABS warning light illuminates and then turns off. This normal start-up sequence indicates that the Anti-lock Braking System has completed its initial check and is ready to operate.

If the ABS warning light illuminates while the engine is running or while driving, it may indicate that the ABS is not functioning properly. Have the system checked as soon as practical. • When the electric power steering warning light illuminates in yellow with the engine running, the power assist to the steering is lowered. You will still have control of the vehicle, but the steering will be harder to operate and may require more effort than usual. Have the power steering system checked. When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the electric power steering warning light illuminates. After starting the engine, the electric power steering warning light turns off. This indicates that the power steering system is operational and has completed its normal check.

When the electric power steering warning light illuminates in yellow, the power assist to the steering is lowered. At this time, greater steering effort is required. Securely grip the steering wheel and operate it with more force than usual while keeping full attention on vehicle control. Have the power steering checked. Electronic parking brake warning light

Low tire pressure warning

A "Tire Pressure Low - Add Air" warning also appears in the vehicle information display to clearly tell the driver that tire pressure should be checked and corrected.

When the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, you should stop when it is safe to do so and adjust the tire pressure of all four tires to the recommended COLD tire pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label located in the driver's door opening.

The low tire pressure warning light does not automatically turn off when the tire pressure is adjusted. After the tire is inflated to the recommended pressure, the Nissan Murano must be driven at speeds above 16 mph (25 km/h) to activate the TPMS and turn off the low tire pressure warning light. Use a tire pressure gauge to check the tire pressure accurately rather than relying only on visual tire appearance.

• When using a wheel without the TPMS, such as the spare tire, the TPMS will not function and the low tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute. The light will remain on after 1 minute. Have your tires replaced and/or the TPMS system reset as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for these services, because the system must be able to monitor the correct wheels and sensors to provide reliable tire pressure warnings.

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)

Basic Information

If this indicator light comes on steady or blinks while the engine is running, it may indicate a potential emission control malfunction. The light should not be ignored, because it is designed to alert the driver when the engine or emission control system may require attention.

The MIL may also come on steady if the vehicle runs out of fuel. Check to make sure that the vehicle has at least 3 gallons (11.4 liters) of fuel in the fuel tank before assuming that another emission-related malfunction is present.

After a few driving trips, the light should turn off if no other potential emission control system malfunction exists. If the light remains on, the Nissan Murano should be inspected so the cause can be identified correctly.

If this indicator light comes on steady for 20 seconds and then blinks for 10 seconds when the engine is not running, it indicates that the vehicle is not ready for an emission control system inspection/maintenance test. This condition may occur when the required readiness checks have not been completed.

Operation

The MIL will come on in one of two ways, and the required driver response depends on whether the light remains steady or blinks:

• MIL on steady - An emission control system malfunction has been detected. The vehicle may still be drivable, but the system should be checked to prevent further problems or increased emissions.

• MIL blinking - An engine misfire has been detected which may damage the emission control system. A blinking light requires more urgent attention because continued driving under severe misfire conditions can harm emission control components. To reduce or avoid emission control system damage:

  • do not drive at speeds above 45 mph (72 km/h), and keep vehicle speed moderate until the condition can be checked.

  • avoid hard acceleration or deceleration, because sudden changes in engine load may worsen the misfire condition.

  • avoid steep uphill grades, since climbing can place additional load on the engine and increase the risk of emission control system damage.

  • if possible, reduce the amount of cargo being hauled or towed to lessen engine load while the warning condition is present.

The MIL may stop blinking and come on steady. Have the vehicle inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service. You do not need to have your vehicle towed to the dealer, but the Nissan Murano should be checked promptly so the cause of the MIL can be diagnosed and corrected.

CAUTION Continued vehicle operation without having the emission control system checked and repaired as necessary could lead to poor driveability, reduced fuel economy, and possible damage to the emission control system. If the warning remains active, the condition should be addressed promptly rather than ignored, because emission-related problems can affect both performance and long-term system reliability.

Master warning light

When the ignition is in the ON position, the master warning light illuminates if a warning message appears in the vehicle information display. This light is intended to draw the driver's attention to important information, system alerts, or operating conditions that may require action or further review.

Rear Automatic Braking (RAB) system warning light

This light comes on when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. It turns off after the engine is started, indicating that the warning light has completed its normal start-up check.

This light illuminates when the RAB system is turned off in the vehicle information display. When this occurs, the driver should understand that Rear Automatic Braking assistance has been disabled and should use extra care when backing up.

If the light illuminates or blinks when the RAB system is on, it may indicate that the system is unavailable. In the Nissan Murano, this means the driver should not rely on Rear Automatic Braking assistance until the condition is resolved or the system has been checked if necessary.

Slip indicator light

This indicator light will blink when the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system is operating, alerting the driver that the road surface may be slippery and that the vehicle is approaching its traction limits. You may feel or hear the system working; this is normal. These sensations can occur as the system helps limit wheel spin and support vehicle stability.

The light will blink for a few seconds after the VDC system stops limiting wheel spin. This brief continued blinking is part of normal indicator behavior and does not by itself indicate a malfunction.

The indicator light also comes on when you place the ignition switch in the ON position. The light will turn off after approximately 2 seconds if the system is operational.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) OFF indicator light

This indicator light comes on when the VDC OFF switch is pushed to off. This indicates that the VDC system has been turned off and that normal traction and stability assistance may be reduced compared with standard operation.

Push the VDC OFF switch again or restart the engine and the system will operate normally. Restoring VDC operation is recommended for regular driving conditions so the system can assist when traction becomes limited.

The VDC OFF indicator light also comes on when you place the ignition switch in the ON position. The light will turn off after about 2 seconds if the system is operational, confirming that the indicator has completed its initial check.

If the light stays on or comes on along with the indicator light while you are driving, have the VDC system checked. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service, because the Nissan Murano may not have normal VDC assistance available if a system condition is present.

WARNING

The VDC should remain on unless freeing a vehicle from mud or snow. Turning it off during normal driving may reduce the assistance available when the vehicle begins to lose traction.

While the VDC system is operating, you might feel a slight vibration or hear the system working when starting the vehicle or accelerating, but this is normal. These sounds or sensations indicate that the system is helping manage traction and stability in response to driving conditions.
