Rear window and outside mirror defroster switch. Windshield Deicer
Rear window and outside mirror defroster switch

To defrost the rear window glass and outside mirrors, place the ignition switch in the ON position and push the rear window defroster switch on. Push the switch again to turn the defroster off. This function helps clear condensation, frost, or light ice from the rear glass and outside mirrors, giving the driver better rearward visibility before driving or while operating the vehicle in cold or damp conditions.
The rear window defroster automatically turns off after approximately 20 minutes. This timed operation allows the system to work long enough for normal clearing while helping reduce unnecessary electrical use after the glass and mirrors have warmed.
CAUTION When cleaning the inner side of the rear window, be careful not to scratch or damage the rear window defroster. The heating elements are part of the glass area, so use gentle cleaning pressure and avoid abrasive tools that could affect defroster performance.
Windshield Deicer

The windshield deicer operates when the push-button ignition switch is in the ON position and the engine is running. In the Nissan Murano, this feature is intended to assist with clearing ice from the lower windshield area where the wiper blades may freeze to the glass.
The deicer is used to remove ice from the windshield when a wiper is frozen to the windshield. For maximum windshield clearing, it is recommended to activate the defroster as well. Using the deicer together with the defroster helps warm the glass more effectively and can make it easier for the wiper blades to return to normal operation.
To activate, touch the key on the touch-screen. The control is operated directly from the display, allowing the driver to turn the windshield deicer on without using a separate physical switch.
The key will change color when activated. This visual change confirms that the deicer has been selected and is currently operating.
The deicer operates for approximately 15 minutes. After the preset time has passed, the deicer will turn off automatically. The automatic shutoff helps prevent the system from running longer than needed once the timed heating cycle is complete.
To turn off the deicer manually, touch the windshield deicer key. Manual control is useful when the windshield area has cleared sooner and the driver no longer needs the function to remain active.
NOTE: The front windshield deicer may be unavailable immediately after the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. If this happens, wait a short period of time and then try to reactivate it. This is not a malfunction.
CAUTION
- When operating the deicer continuously, be sure to start the engine.
Otherwise, it may cause the battery to discharge. Keeping the engine running helps support the electrical load while the deicer is in use.
- When cleaning the inner side of the window, be careful not to scratch or damage the electrical conductors on the surface of the window. Careful cleaning helps preserve proper operation of the Nissan Murano defroster and deicer systems.
