Canadian radio-frequency regulations require transmitter signals to "time-out" or stop transmitting after several seconds. In some cases, this transmission period may not be long enough for HomeLink to capture the signal during training. Some U.S. gate operators are designed to time out in a similar way.

If you live in Canada, or if you are having difficulty programming a gate operator or garage door opener using the standard "Programming HomeLink" procedure, replace "Programming HomeLink" step 2 with the following method:

NOTE: When programming a garage door opener or similar device, unplug the device during the "cycling" process to help prevent possible damage to its components.

Step 2: Continue pressing and holding the HomeLink button while you press and release your hand-held transmitter every two seconds, or "cycle" it, until the HomeLink indicator light changes from a slow blink to a rapid blink. Once the indicator changes, release both the HomeLink button and the hand-held transmitter button.

Proceed with "Programming HomeLink" step 3 to complete the setup.

Remember to plug the device back in after programming is completed.

Operating the HomeLink Universal Transceiver

After the HomeLink Universal Transceiver has been programmed in the Nissan Murano, it can be used to activate the programmed device. To operate it, firmly press the appropriate programmed HomeLink button. The indicator light will illuminate in green with three parenthesis on the mirror while the signal is being transmitted.

Programming trouble-shooting

If HomeLink does not quickly learn the hand-held transmitter information, try the following steps before repeating the programming procedure:

• Replace the batteries in the hand-held transmitter with new batteries to improve signal strength.
• Position the hand-held transmitter so the battery area faces away from the HomeLink button.
• Press and hold both the HomeLink button and the hand-held transmitter button during each programming step without interruption.
• Position the hand-held transmitter 1 to 3 in (2 to 8 cm) away from the HomeLink button. Hold it in that position for up to 15 seconds. If HomeLink is not programmed within that time, try another position, such as 6 to 12 in (15 to 20 cm) away, while keeping the HomeLink button in view at all times.

For optimal functionality, it is recommended not to place metal objects near the garage door opener antenna.

Clearing the programmed information

Basic Information

The following procedure clears the programmed information from all three HomeLink buttons.

Individual buttons cannot be cleared separately.

However, individual buttons can be reprogrammed with new device information.

To clear all programming

1. Press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons until the indicator light begins to flash green, which takes approximately 10 seconds.

Do not hold the buttons for longer than 20 seconds.

2. Release both buttons.

HomeLink is now in programming mode and can be programmed at any time, beginning with "Programming HomeLink" - Step 1.

Reprogramming a single HomeLink button

To reprogram one HomeLink button in the Nissan Murano, complete the following procedure:

1. Press and hold the desired HomeLink button. DO NOT release the button.

2. The indicator light will begin to flash after 20 seconds. Without releasing the HomeLink button, proceed with "Programming HomeLink" - Step 1.

The selected HomeLink button has now been reprogrammed.

The new device can be activated by pressing the HomeLink button that was just programmed. This procedure will not affect any other programmed HomeLink buttons.

If a new device is not programmed to the HomeLink button, the button will revert to the previously stored programming.

If your vehicle is stolen

If your vehicle is stolen, you should change the codes of any non-rolling code device that has been programmed into HomeLink. Consult the Owner's Manual for each device, or contact the manufacturer or dealer of those devices for additional information.

When your Nissan Murano is recovered, you will need to reprogram the HomeLink Universal Transceiver with your new transmitter information.
