1. Pull the hood lock release handle 1, located below the instrument panel on the driver's side, until the primary latch releases and the hood rises slightly. Make sure the Nissan Murano is parked securely before beginning this procedure.

2. Move to the front of the vehicle and locate the secondary release lever 2 between the hood and the grille. Push the lever sideways with your fingertips while lifting the hood upward to position 3. Raise the hood carefully and keep your hands clear of the surrounding body panels.

To close the hood, lower it slowly until it is approximately 12 in (30 cm) above the latch, and then release it. Allowing the hood to drop from this height helps the latch engage correctly. After closing, check that the hood is level with the surrounding bodywork and securely locked before driving the Nissan Murano.

• Always confirm that the hood is completely closed and securely latched before the vehicle is driven. An improperly secured hood could open unexpectedly while driving, block the driver's view, and cause a serious accident.
• If steam or smoke is coming from the engine compartment, do not open the hood. Hot vapor, fluids, or components may cause burns or other serious injuries. Keep a safe distance from the engine compartment until the condition can be inspected safely.
