Basic Information

1. Apply the parking brake securely before attempting to start the engine. This helps keep the Nissan Murano stationary throughout the starting procedure.

2. Place the shift position in P (Park) or N (Neutral). P (Park) is the recommended position for normal engine starting.

The starter is designed to operate only when the transmission is in P (Park) or N (Neutral). If the shift position is set elsewhere, the engine will not crank.

3. Push the ignition switch to the ON position.

Depress the brake pedal firmly, and then push the ignition switch to start the engine.

To start the engine immediately, press and release the ignition switch while holding the brake pedal down. The engine can be started this way regardless of the current ignition-switch position, provided the Intelligent Key is recognized and the required starting conditions are met.

• If the engine is especially difficult to start in extremely cold weather or during a restart, depress the accelerator pedal slightly, approximately one-third of the way to the floor, and hold it in that position while cranking the engine.

  Release the accelerator pedal as soon as the engine starts. Avoid pressing the pedal more than necessary or racing the engine immediately after startup.

• If the engine is difficult to start because it is flooded, press the accelerator pedal fully to the floor and hold it there. Push the ignition switch to the ON position to begin cranking the engine. After approximately 5 or 6 seconds, stop cranking by moving the ignition switch to the LOCK position. Once cranking has stopped, release the accelerator pedal.

  Attempt to start the engine again with your foot completely off the accelerator pedal. Depress the brake pedal and push the ignition switch to crank the engine normally.

  If the engine starts but does not continue running, repeat the procedure described above.

  Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 15 seconds. If the engine does not start, move the ignition switch to the OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds before trying again. Continuous or repeated cranking without the required waiting period could damage the starter.

  During every additional starting attempt, limit starter operation to no more than 15 seconds. If the Nissan Murano still does not start, return the ignition switch to OFF and wait 10 seconds before cranking again to allow the starter to recover and reduce the possibility of damage.

4. Warm-up:

After the engine starts, allow it to idle for at least 30 seconds. Do not race the engine while it is warming up. Begin driving at a moderate speed for a short distance, particularly in cold weather, so the engine can warm gradually under light operating conditions. In cold temperatures, allow the engine to run for at least 2 to 3 minutes before shutting it off. Repeatedly starting and stopping the engine within a short period can make the vehicle more difficult to restart.

5. To stop the engine, place the shift position in P (Park), confirm that the vehicle is securely parked, and push the ignition switch to the OFF position.

NOTE:

Avoid operating conditions that may discharge the vehicle battery and create a potential no-start situation. Battery power can be depleted when electrical equipment continues operating while the engine is off or when the Nissan Murano is not driven often enough to restore the energy used during starting.

1. Installing or using electronic accessories for extended periods while the engine is not running may consume significant battery power. Examples include phone chargers, portable navigation devices, DVD players, and other equipment connected to the vehicle's electrical outlets.

2. If the vehicle is not driven regularly or is used mainly for short trips, the battery may not receive enough charging time during normal operation. Under these conditions, the battery may require periodic charging to maintain its condition and reliable starting performance.

Remote Engine Start

When the Nissan Murano has been started with the Remote Engine Start function, the ignition switch must be placed in the ON position before the shift position can be moved out of P (Park). Complete the following steps before attempting to drive:

1. Make sure the Intelligent Key is with you and located within the vehicle's operating range.

2. Depress and hold the brake pedal firmly.

3. Push the ignition switch once to place it in the ON position. After the ignition changes to ON, the shift position can be moved from P (Park) as required for normal driving.
