If a malfunction or abnormal operating condition is detected in the All-Wheel Drive system while the engine is running, a corresponding warning message will appear in the meter. The message identifies the type of condition affecting AWD operation and indicates the action the driver should take.

If the AWD error warning message appears, the All-Wheel Drive system may have developed a malfunction. Reduce the speed of the Nissan Murano, avoid abrupt acceleration or demanding driving conditions, and arrange to have the vehicle inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer as soon as possible.

The AWD high temperature message may appear when repeated wheelspin or heavy drivetrain demand causes the AWD oil temperature to rise, such as while attempting to free the vehicle after it becomes stuck.

Under this condition, the driving mode may change automatically to 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) to protect the AWD system. If the message is displayed, move the vehicle to a safe location as soon as conditions permit and stop with the engine idling. Wait for the system temperature to decrease. When the warning message turns off, normal driving may be resumed.

The tire size warning message may appear when the system detects a significant difference between the rolling diameters of the front and rear wheels. Pull safely off the road and leave the engine idling. Confirm that all four tires are the same specified size, that each tire is inflated to the correct pressure, and that none of the tires is excessively or unevenly worn.

If an AWD warning message remains displayed after the recommended action has been taken, have the Nissan Murano inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer as soon as possible to prevent further drivetrain problems or reduced AWD performance.

• Never drive beyond the traction and performance capabilities of the tires. Rapid acceleration, sudden braking, or sharp steering movements can cause the vehicle to lose traction or become difficult to control, even when AWD is operating. Always adjust speed and driving inputs to current road, weather, and tire conditions.
• On an AWD-equipped vehicle, do not raise two wheels off the ground and then shift the transmission into a drive or reverse position while the engine is running. The driven wheels may rotate unexpectedly, causing sudden vehicle movement, drivetrain damage, serious personal injury, or damage to nearby property.
• Do not test an AWD-equipped vehicle on a two-wheel dynamometer, including equipment used at some emissions inspection facilities, even when the other two wheels are raised off the ground. Before testing begins, clearly inform facility personnel that the vehicle is equipped with All-Wheel Drive. Using unsuitable test equipment may damage the drivetrain or cause unexpected vehicle movement, which could result in serious personal injury or vehicle damage.

CAUTION

• Do not operate the engine on a free roller while one or more wheels are raised off the ground. Doing so can create an incorrect difference in wheel speed and may damage the All-Wheel Drive system or other powertrain components.
• If a free roller must be used, all four wheels must remain on the rollers and rotate at the same speed. Do not raise any wheel while the engine is operating or the drivetrain is engaged.
• If an AWD warning message appears while driving, the All-Wheel Drive system may have developed a malfunction. Reduce the Nissan Murano’s speed immediately, avoid abrupt acceleration or demanding driving conditions, and have the vehicle inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer as soon as possible.
• Continuing to drive while the AWD high temperature or incorrect tire size message is displayed may damage the powertrain. Respond to the warning promptly and follow the required procedure before resuming normal driving.
• If the AWD high temperature message appears while driving, leave the roadway and stop in a safe location with the engine idling. The system may automatically change the driving mode to 2WD to protect the AWD components from overheating or malfunctioning.

  Wait until the warning message turns off before continuing the trip. Once the message disappears, the Nissan Murano may be driven again under normal conditions.

• If the incorrect tire size message appears while driving, pull off the road in a safe area and leave the engine idling. Verify that all four tires are the same specified size, that each tire is inflated to the correct pressure, and that none of the tires is excessively or unevenly worn.
• If an AWD warning message remains displayed after completing the appropriate steps, have the vehicle checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer so the AWD system, tires, and related powertrain components can be inspected.

When the Nissan Murano is in the P (Park) position, an operating sound may occasionally be heard from the lower part of the vehicle. This sound can occur during normal system operation and does not indicate a malfunction.
