Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) system
- The Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) system uses automatic brake control to help transfer power away from a slipping drive wheel and toward the wheel on the same axle that has greater traction. By applying braking force to the wheel that is spinning, the system helps redirect available drive power to the opposite wheel and improves the Nissan Murano’s ability to move on surfaces with uneven traction.
- The ABLS system is normally active whenever the vehicle is being driven. Under certain operating conditions, it may temporarily switch itself off. If this occurs, conventional braking remains fully available even though ABLS assistance is not operating. The ABLS function can continue to operate when the Vehicle Dynamic Control system has been turned off.
- The ABLS system cannot provide its intended traction assistance when both wheels on the same drive axle are slipping. In this situation, reduce accelerator input and adjust vehicle operation to the available road traction.
WARNING
- The ABLS system can help improve traction, but it cannot prevent accidents caused by abrupt steering, excessive speed, careless driving, or unsafe driving practices. Reduce vehicle speed and use smooth steering, braking, and accelerator inputs, especially when driving or cornering on wet, icy, snowy, or otherwise slippery surfaces.
- Do not modify the vehicle's suspension.
If suspension components such as shock absorbers, struts, springs, stabilizer bars, bushings, or wheels are not approved by NISSAN for the vehicle, or if these components are severely worn or damaged, the ABLS system may not operate as intended. Changes in suspension geometry or component condition can affect wheel movement, traction, and the sensor information used by the system.
This condition may adversely affect the handling characteristics of the Nissan Murano and may cause the slip indicator light to illuminate.
- If brake-related components such as brake pads, rotors, or calipers are not recommended by NISSAN, or if they are excessively worn or damaged, the ABLS system may not function correctly. Because the system relies on controlled brake application at an individual wheel, unsuitable or deteriorated brake components may cause the slip indicator light to illuminate.
- If wheels or tires other than those recommended by NISSAN are installed, differences in size, construction, or traction characteristics may interfere with proper ABLS operation. Under these conditions, the system may not provide the expected assistance and the slip indicator light may illuminate.
Chassis control
Basic information
Chassis control is managed by an electronic control module that coordinates selected braking functions to improve cornering response and ride quality. Depending on vehicle equipment, the module includes the following functions:
- Intelligent Trace Control
- Active Ride Control (if so equipped)
Intelligent Trace Control
Intelligent Trace Control monitors the driver’s steering, acceleration, and braking patterns to evaluate how the vehicle is entering and traveling through a corner. When appropriate, the system adjusts brake pressure independently at individual wheels to help the Nissan Murano follow the intended cornering path and respond more smoothly to steering input.
When the VDC system is turned off, Intelligent Trace Control is also disabled and will not provide individual-wheel brake control while cornering.
The amount of braking assistance provided by Intelligent Trace Control changes according to the mode selected with the Drive Mode Selector. The system adapts its intervention to the selected driving characteristics while continuing to respond to current steering and pedal inputs.
If Intelligent Trace Control is not operating correctly, the master warning light will illuminate and the “Chassis Control System Error” warning message will appear in the vehicle information display.
If the chassis control warning message appears, Intelligent Trace Control may not be functioning as intended. Continue driving cautiously and have the system inspected as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
WARNING Intelligent Trace Control may not provide effective assistance in every road, weather, or driving condition. It cannot overcome the limits of tire traction or correct every steering input. Always remain attentive, select an appropriate speed, and maintain full control of the vehicle.
While Intelligent Trace Control is operating, a slight pulsation may be felt through the brake pedal and a mechanical sound may be heard. These sensations are normal and indicate that the system is adjusting brake pressure. The driver may also notice mild deceleration during operation, which is a normal result of the braking assistance and does not indicate a malfunction.
Active Ride Control
Active Ride Control monitors movement of the vehicle body and adjusts brake pressure at all four wheels when necessary. The system is designed to reduce uncomfortable upper-body motion as the vehicle travels over uneven or undulating road surfaces.
By applying carefully controlled braking force, Active Ride Control can help smooth the Nissan Murano’s response as it passes over changes in the road surface and support a more settled ride. When the VDC system is turned off, Active Ride Control is also disabled.
If the chassis control warning message appears in the vehicle information display, Active Ride Control may not be operating properly. Drive with appropriate caution and have the system checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
WARNING Active Ride Control may not provide effective assistance under every driving or road condition.
Always remain attentive, adjust vehicle speed to the condition of the road, and operate the vehicle carefully.
When Active Ride Control is operating, a pulsation may be felt in the brake pedal and a sound may be heard as brake pressure is adjusted. These are normal characteristics of system operation. The driver may also notice slight deceleration while the function is active.
This response is part of normal Active Ride Control operation and does not indicate a malfunction.
