WARNING Overloading a trailer or distributing its cargo incorrectly can adversely affect vehicle handling, braking, stability, and overall performance. Improper towing may make the Nissan Murano more difficult to control and can increase the risk of a collision.

CAUTION

  • Do not tow a trailer or carry a heavy load during the first 500 miles (805 km) of vehicle operation.

    Towing or hauling excessive weight during this initial period could damage the engine, axle, or other vehicle components before they have properly worn in.

  • During the first 500 miles (805 km) of trailer towing, do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h) and avoid full-throttle starts. Driving at moderate speeds and accelerating gradually allows the engine and other components of the Nissan Murano to adjust to the increased towing load.

NOTE: Tow hitches are available as accessories for this vehicle. When a tow hitch is installed, the liftgate electronic control unit (ECU) must be replaced with an ECU programmed with towing logic so that the Motion-Activated Liftgate can continue to operate correctly.

Your new vehicle was designed primarily for transporting passengers and cargo. Trailer towing should therefore be approached carefully, with the trailer, hitch, and load prepared in accordance with the applicable towing requirements.

Towing a trailer places additional demands on the engine, drivetrain, steering, braking system, and other Nissan Murano components. These increased loads can affect acceleration, stopping distance, handling response, and the way the vehicle behaves during turns or changes in road conditions.
