WARNING

In freezing temperatures the washer solution may freeze on the windshield and obscure your vision, which may lead to an accident. Warm the windshield with the defroster before using the windshield washer. Clear glass is essential for safe driving, especially when cold weather can cause fluid to freeze almost immediately after it reaches the surface.

CAUTION

• Do not operate the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds. Extended operation can place unnecessary strain on the washer pump and related components.
• Do not operate the washer if the windshield-washer fluid reservoir is empty. Running the washer without fluid may reduce washer performance and should be avoided.
• Do not fill the windshield-washer fluid reservoir with windshield-washer fluid concentrates at full strength. Some methyl alcohol based windshield-washer fluid concentrates may permanently stain the grille if spilled while filling the windshield-washer fluid reservoir.
• Pre-mix windshield-washer fluid concentrates with water to the manufacturer's recommended levels before pouring the fluid into the windshield-washer fluid reservoir.

  Do not use the windshield-washer fluid reservoir to mix the windshield-washer fluid concentrate and water. Preparing the mixture separately helps maintain the correct concentration and reduces the chance of improper washer operation or accidental spills.

NOTE:

If the windshield wiper operation is interrupted by snow or ice, the wiper may stop moving to protect its motor. If this occurs, turn the wiper switch to the OFF position and remove the snow or ice that is on and around the wiper arms. In approximately 1 minute, turn the switch on again to operate the wiper. This protective behavior helps prevent motor damage when the blades cannot move freely.

The windshield wiper and washer operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position. In the Nissan Murano, the wiper lever provides direct access to mist, intermittent, low-speed, high-speed, and washer operation from the steering column area.

Push the lever down to operate the wiper at the following speed:

1. Intermittent (INT) - intermittent operation can be adjusted by turning the knob toward A (slower) or B (faster).

   Also, the intermittent operation speed varies in accordance with the vehicle speed (if so equipped). For example, when the vehicle speed is high, the intermittent operation speed will be faster, helping the windshield stay clearer as driving conditions change.

2. Low (LO) - continuous low speed operation. This setting is used when steady wiping is needed for moderate moisture or consistent road spray.
3. High (HI) - continuous high speed operation. This setting provides quicker blade movement for heavier rain or conditions that require faster clearing.

Push the lever up 4 to have one sweep operation (MIST) of the wiper. This function is useful when only a single quick wipe is needed to clear light moisture from the windshield.

Pull the lever toward you 5 to operate the washer. The wiper will also operate several times, spreading washer fluid across the windshield and helping clear dirt, road spray, or other buildup from the glass.

NOTE: The Speed Dependent feature may be disabled.

Rain-sensing auto wiper system (if so equipped)

CAUTION

• Do not touch the rain sensor and around it when the wiper switch is in the AUTO position and the ignition switch is in the ON position. The wipers may operate unexpectedly and cause an injury or may damage a wiper.
• The rain-sensing auto wipers are intended for use during rain. If the switch is left in the AUTO position, the wipers may operate unexpectedly when dirt, fingerprints, oil film or insects are stuck on or around the sensor. The wipers may also operate when exhaust gas or moisture affect the rain sensor.
• When the windshield glass is coated with water repellent, the speed of the rain-sensing auto wipers may be higher even though the amount of the rainfall is small.
• Be sure to turn off the rain-sensing auto wiper system when you use a car wash. This prevents the wipers from operating unexpectedly while the vehicle is being washed.
• The rain-sensing auto wipers may not operate if rain does not hit the rain sensor even if it is raining. The system responds to moisture detected in the sensor area, not simply to weather conditions around the vehicle.
• Using Genuine NISSAN wiper blades is recommended for proper operation of the rain-sensing auto wiper system. Correct blade fitment and condition help the sensor-based wiping system work more consistently.

The rain-sensing auto wiper system can automatically turn on the wipers and adjust the wiper speed depending on the rainfall and the vehicle speed by using the rain sensor located on the upper part of the windshield. This feature allows the Nissan Murano to adjust wiping operation more smoothly as rain intensity changes.

To set the rain-sensing auto wiper system, place the lever in the AUTO position 1. The wiper will sweep once while the ignition switch is in the ON position, confirming that AUTO mode has been selected.

The rain sensor sensitivity level can be adjusted by turning the knob toward the rear 2 (Low) or toward the front 3 (High). This adjustment changes how readily the system responds to moisture on the windshield.

• High - High sensitive operation. The wipers respond more quickly to detected rain or moisture.
• Low - Low sensitive operation. The wipers respond less aggressively when only light moisture is detected.

To turn the rain-sensing auto wiper system off, rotate the lever to the OFF position, or rotate the lever to the low or high position. Selecting a standard wiper position gives the driver manual control instead of automatic sensor-based operation.

The rain-sensing feature may be disabled.

Rear switch operation

Warm the rear window with the defroster before washing the rear window. Good rear visibility is important when reversing, parking, or monitoring traffic behind the vehicle.

CAUTION

• Do not operate the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds. Continuous operation for longer than recommended can stress the washer system.
• Do not operate the washer if the windshield-washer fluid reservoir is empty. Add washer fluid before using the washer again.
• Do not fill the windshield-washer fluid reservoir with windshield-washer fluid concentrates at full strength. Some methyl alcohol based windshield-washer fluid concentrates may permanently stain the grille if spilled while filling the windshield-washer fluid reservoir.
• Pre-mix windshield-washer fluid concentrates with water to the manufacturer's recommended levels before pouring the fluid into the windshield-washer fluid reservoir.

  Do not use the windshield-washer fluid reservoir to mix the windshield-washer fluid concentrate and water. Mixing the fluid separately helps protect the washer system and surrounding surfaces.

If the rear window wiper operation is interrupted by snow, etc., the wiper may stop moving to protect its motor. If this occurs, turn the wiper switch to OFF and remove the snow, etc. on and around the wiper arms. After about 1 minute, turn the switch on again to operate the wiper. This gives the rear wiper motor time to recover after the obstruction has been cleared.

The rear window wiper and washer operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position. Turn the switch clockwise from the OFF position to operate the wiper. The rear switch gives Nissan Murano drivers simple control over intermittent rear wiping, continuous rear wiping, and rear washer operation.

1. Intermittent (INT) - intermittent operation (not adjustable). This setting provides periodic rear wiping for light moisture or road spray.
2. Low (ON) - continuous low speed operation. This setting keeps the rear wiper moving steadily when more consistent rear visibility is needed.

Push the switch forward 3 to operate the washer. The wiper will also operate several times, helping clean the rear window after washer fluid is applied.

Rear window wiper service position:

The rear wiper service position can be accessed by pushing the rear washer switch forward twice in under a second with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Push the switch forward again to return it to the normal operating position. This position is useful when the rear wiper needs to be checked, cleaned, or serviced.
