Power moonroof
Basic Information

The moonroof operates only when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. This allows the driver to control the roof opening, closing, and tilt functions while the vehicle electrical system is active.
The power moonroof in the Nissan Murano can continue to operate for a limited period even after the ignition switch is placed in the AUTO ACC or OFF position. If the driver's door or the front passenger's door is opened during this period, power to the moonroof is canceled and operation will stop.
Sliding the moonroof
To fully open or close the moonroof, push the switch to the open 1 or close 2 position and release it. The switch does not need to be held. The moonroof will automatically move all the way open or all the way closed. To stop the roof while it is opening or closing, push the switch once more during operation.
Tilting the moonroof
To tilt the moonroof upward, first make sure the moonroof is fully closed. Then push the switch 3 and release it; it does not need to be held. To tilt the moonroof downward, push the switch to the tilt down position 2 until the desired operation is completed.
Auto-reverse function (when closing or tilting down the moonroof)
Basic Information
The auto-reverse function can activate when the moonroof is being closed or tilted down using automatic operation. This function may operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position or for a limited period after the ignition switch has been placed in the OFF position.
Depending on the environment or driving conditions, the auto-reverse function may also activate if the system detects an impact, resistance, or load similar to something being caught in the moonroof.
WARNING There are small areas immediately before the fully closed position where obstruction detection may not occur. Before closing or tilting down the moonroof, make sure all passengers have their hands, arms, and other body parts safely inside the Nissan Murano.
If the moonroof switch does not operate
If the moonroof and sunshade do not operate properly, perform the following procedure to initialize the operation system.
1. If the moonroof and sunshade are open, close them fully by repeatedly pushing the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 2 position.
2. Push and hold the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 2 position for 10 seconds.
3. After the moonroof and sunshade move slightly toward the closed position and then move back a little, release the moonroof switch.
4. Push and hold the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 2 position until the moonroof and sunshade fully open and then fully close.
5. Release the moonroof switch.
6. Check whether the moonroof switch operates normally. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position to save the initialization setting for the Nissan Murano.
WARNING The driver is always responsible for proper moonroof operation, including any operation performed by passengers. Before allowing the moonroof to open, close, tilt, or move automatically, make sure all occupants understand the risk of injury and keep hands, arms, face, and other body parts away from the opening.
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for correct use of the moonroof could result in serious injury or death.
- Do not allow children to operate the moonroof. Improper operation by children may cause an accident, and if a child or another occupant becomes caught in the moonroof opening, serious injury could occur.
- To help avoid the risk of injury or death from unintended moonroof operation, place the ignition switch in the OFF position when leaving the Nissan Murano, and do not leave children or the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle.
- Do not intentionally activate or test the auto-reverse function. If hands, face, or other body parts become caught in the moonroof, serious injury may result.
CAUTION
- Do not place objects such as newspapers, handkerchiefs, papers, or similar items on the sunshade while it is extending or retracting. Objects on the sunshade may interfere with movement and could cause improper operation or damage.
- Do not push the sunshade arm with your hands or apply force to it. The arm may become deformed, which could lead to improper operation or damage to the sunshade.
- Do not insert any object into the sunshade inlet port. Doing so may interfere with the mechanism and may cause improper operation or damage to the sunshade.
- Do not hang any object on the arm rail. Extra weight or obstruction on the rail may affect movement and could damage the sunshade mechanism.
- Do not forcefully pull the sunshade.
Excessive pulling may stretch or deform the sunshade material.
Improper operation or damage to the sunshade in the Nissan Murano may result.
If the moonroof does not operate properly after the initialization procedure has been performed, have the vehicle inspected by a NISSAN dealer.
When closing
If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof while it is moving toward the front, the moonroof will immediately open backward to help reduce the possibility of entrapment.
When tilting down
If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof while it is tilting down, the moonroof will immediately tilt upward.
If the auto-reverse function malfunctions and repeatedly opens or tilts up the moonroof, keep pushing the tilt down switch within 5 seconds after this occurs. The moonroof will then close gradually until it reaches the fully closed position.
Make sure nothing is caught in the moonroof before closing or tilting it down.
WARNING
- In an accident, an occupant could be thrown from the vehicle through an open moonroof. Always use seat belts and make sure child restraints are used correctly in the Nissan Murano.
- Do not allow anyone to stand up or extend any part of their body through the moonroof opening while the vehicle is moving or while the moonroof is closing.
CAUTION
- Remove water drops, snow, ice, sand, or other debris from the moonroof before opening it. Foreign material on the glass or around the seals may interfere with smooth operation.
- Do not place heavy objects on the moonroof glass or on the surrounding roof area, as this may damage the moonroof components or affect proper operation.
Panoramic sunshade

The panoramic sunshade operates when the ignition switch is in the ON position. The sunshade switch is located near the roof console, making it accessible from the front seating area. When opening or closing the sunshade, the switch does not need to be held continuously.
To open the sunshade:
- To fully open the sunshade, push the switch toward the open position 1. The sunshade will move automatically to the open position.
To close the sunshade:
- To fully close the sunshade, push the switch toward the close position 2. The sunshade will close automatically without requiring the switch to be held.
WARNING
- To help avoid personal injury, keep your hands, fingers, head, and other body parts away from the sunshade arm, arm rail, and sunshade inlet port while the sunshade is moving.
- Do not allow children near the rear sunshade system. Improper contact with the moving sunshade or its mechanism could cause injury.
- Do not place objects on or near the rear sunshade. Objects may interfere with sunshade movement and could cause improper operation or damage.
- Do not pull or push the rear sunshade.
Forcing the sunshade by hand could cause improper operation or damage the sunshade mechanism in the Nissan Murano.
CAUTION
- Do not place objects such as newspapers, handkerchiefs, papers, or similar items on the sunshade inlet port. These items may become caught in the sunshade while it is extending or retracting, causing improper operation or damage.
- Do not push the sunshade arm with your hands or apply force to it. The arm may become deformed, which could result in improper operation or damage to the sunshade.
- Do not hang any object on the arm rail, as extra weight or obstruction may interfere with movement and could damage the sunshade.
- Do not forcefully pull the sunshade.
Doing so may stretch or elongate the sunshade material.
Improper operation or damage to the panoramic sunshade may result.
If the moonroof does not close
If the moonroof does not close properly, have the moonroof system checked and repaired by qualified service personnel.
It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service to ensure the moonroof and panoramic sunshade system in the Nissan Murano are inspected correctly.
