The guide lines shown on the display and their apparent positions on the ground are intended only as approximate references. Slopes, uneven surfaces, and objects that extend above the ground can make the displayed distance differ from the actual clearance behind the Nissan Murano. Review the illustrations carefully to understand how uphill, downhill, and projecting objects can affect the camera image. Whenever the available space is uncertain, turn and look through the rear window while backing up, or stop the vehicle, shift into P (Park), and inspect the area behind it directly.

Backing up on a steep uphill

When reversing uphill, the distance guide lines and vehicle width guide lines may appear closer to the vehicle than their actual positions on the road surface. As a result, an object located farther up the slope may be more distant than it appears on the monitor. Reverse slowly and use direct observation and the mirrors to confirm the true clearance.

Backing up on a steep downhill

When reversing down a steep slope, the distance guide lines and vehicle width guide lines may appear farther from the vehicle than they are in reality. An object shown on the downhill surface may therefore be closer to the Nissan Murano than the monitor image suggests. Reduce speed and confirm the available space before continuing.

Backing up near a projecting object

Predicted course lines A may appear to pass beside the object without touching it on the display. However, if part of the object extends outward above the ground or into the actual reversing path, the vehicle may still make contact with it. Consider the full shape and height of the obstacle rather than relying only on where its lower portion appears relative to the guide lines.

Backing up behind a projecting object

Position C appears farther away than position B in the displayed image. In actual space, however, position  C is the same distance from the vehicle as position A. If the upper part of the object extends over the true reversing path, the Nissan Murano may strike it while backing toward position A, even though the lower portion appears to remain outside the projected course.
