Push-button ignition switch positions
LOCK (Normal parking position)
The LOCK position is the normal setting used when the vehicle is parked. The ignition switch can be locked only in this position, helping prevent unintended operation of the ignition system while the Nissan Murano is not in use.
While carrying the Intelligent Key within its operating range, placing the ignition switch in the ON position unlocks the ignition switch and allows the vehicle's electrical systems to operate.
After the ignition has been switched off, the ignition switch will lock when any door is opened or closed. This automatic operation prepares the vehicle for secure parking after occupants enter or leave the passenger compartment.
ON (Normal operating position)
The ON position activates the ignition system and makes the vehicle's electrical accessories available. This is the normal ignition position while the engine is running and may also be used briefly when access to powered equipment is required without starting the engine.
The ON position includes a battery saver feature. If the engine is not running, the system will automatically move the ignition switch to the OFF position after a period of time when all of the following conditions are met:
- All doors are fully closed.
- The shift position remains in P (Park).
- The hazard warning lamps are switched off.
- The turn signals are switched off.
The battery saver feature will be canceled, and automatic movement to the OFF position may not occur, if any of the following actions or conditions are detected:
- The shift position is moved out of P (Park).
- The ignition switch is changed to another position.
- The hazard warning lamps are turned on.
- Either turn signal is activated.
CAUTION Do not leave the Nissan Murano unattended with the ignition switch in the ON position while the engine is not running for an extended period. Electrical accessories can continue drawing power and may discharge the vehicle battery, potentially preventing the engine from starting.
OFF
The ignition switch enters the OFF position when the engine is shut down using the push-button ignition switch. While the switch is in this position, the ignition switch heartbeat function may activate for a limited period. This function produces pulsed illumination when a door is unlocked or when the open or closed status of a door changes, making the switch easier to locate inside the vehicle.
AUTO ACC
When the Nissan Murano is in P (Park), the Intelligent Key is with you, and the ignition is changed from ON to OFF, the AUTO ACC function may allow the radio to remain available for a period of time. Accessory operation will end after the permitted interval or when the driver's door is opened.
After accessory power has been inactive for a period of time, functions such as the radio, navigation system, if equipped, and Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System may be restarted by switching on the audio system. Detailed instructions for operating these features are provided in the separate NissanConnect Owner's Manual.
Depending on the vehicle's operating conditions and the surrounding situation, the AUTO ACC function may not activate, or its operating period may be shorter than usual. Under these circumstances, AUTO ACC and related accessory functions may remain unavailable or may turn off earlier than expected.
Emergency engine shut off
If an emergency makes it necessary to stop the engine while the vehicle is being driven, use one of the following procedures. Emergency shutdown should be performed only when continued engine operation creates a greater immediate risk:
- Rapidly press the ignition switch three consecutive times within less than 1.5 seconds, or
- Press and hold the ignition switch continuously for more than 2 seconds.
