Basic Information

The Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) system provides the driver with information about the most recently detected speed limit. A multi-sensing front camera unit A, mounted on the windshield in front of the inside rearview mirror, monitors visible road signs and sends the recognized information to the vehicle information display. On vehicles equipped with a navigation system, the displayed speed limit is determined using a combination of navigation map data and current sign recognition from the front camera. When TSR is enabled through the Driver Assistance settings, the recognized traffic-sign information remains visible at the top of the Nissan Murano vehicle information display.
WARNING The TSR system is designed only as a driver-support feature that provides supplemental road-sign information. It does not replace careful observation of traffic conditions, posted signs, or the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle safely. The system cannot prevent collisions caused by distraction, inattention, or failure to follow current traffic regulations. The driver must remain alert, watch the road continuously, and make all driving decisions based on actual conditions.
System operation

The Traffic Sign Recognition system can identify and display the following types of road signs when they are visible and recognized by the camera:

- Detected speed limit sign used in Canada.
- Detected speed limit sign used in the United States.
- Speed-sign display shown when no specific speed limit has been detected.
- Detected "Do not pass" sign.
CAUTION
- The TSR system is intended only to assist attentive driving. The driver remains responsible for staying alert, operating the Nissan Murano safely, observing surrounding traffic, and following all current road regulations, including posted traffic signs that may not appear in the display.
- The TSR system may not recognize signs accurately or may become temporarily unavailable under any of the
following conditions:
- A road sign is damaged, faded, covered, positioned at an unusual angle, or otherwise difficult to see because of weather or surrounding conditions.
- Rain, snow, ice, dirt, or another obstruction adheres to the windshield in front of the multi-sensing front camera unit.
- The headlights do not provide sufficient illumination because the lenses are dirty, the lights are not aimed correctly, or visibility is otherwise reduced.
- Strong light enters the camera directly, such as sunlight shining toward the front of the vehicle during sunrise or sunset.
- Ambient brightness changes suddenly, including when the vehicle enters or leaves a tunnel, passes beneath a bridge, or moves between strongly illuminated and shaded areas.
- The vehicle is traveling in an area that is not covered by the navigation system's available map data.
- The actual road layout differs from the navigation information, such as after a road has been rerouted, reconstructed, or temporarily changed.
- The vehicle passes a bus or truck displaying a speed sticker that may be mistaken for a roadside speed-limit sign.
- Navigation-system data is outdated, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable.
- The TSR system may occasionally display a traffic sign even when no corresponding sign is located directly ahead of the vehicle. It may also show a speed limit that does not apply to a passenger vehicle. For example, the displayed value may be higher or lower than the actual legal limit if the camera recognizes a truck-specific speed sign, an advisory-speed sign, separate daytime or nighttime limits, or a sign using different measurement units near an international border. Always rely on the signs and regulations that apply to the current road and vehicle.
