I-LI system limitations

WARNING The operating limitations of the Intelligent Lane Intervention system are described below. Failure to understand these restrictions or follow the instructions for proper use of the I-LI system could result in loss of vehicle control, serious injury, or death.

  • The I-LI system may activate if the Nissan Murano crosses a lane marking without the turn signal being used. It may also intervene when temporary traffic patterns, such as those in a construction zone, require the vehicle to cross an existing lane line. If steering assistance occurs under these conditions, the driver may need to apply deliberate corrective steering to complete the intended maneuver safely.
  • The I-LI system may not activate under some of the road, weather, visibility, and lane-marking conditions described in this section. It cannot be expected to respond every time the vehicle begins leaving its lane, so the driver must remain prepared to steer immediately and maintain the correct course without system assistance.
  • While the I-LI system is operating, avoid excessive, abrupt, or unnecessary steering inputs. Sudden steering maneuvers can interfere with vehicle stability and may cause the driver to lose control, particularly at higher speeds or on roads with limited traction.
  • The I-LI system does not operate at speeds below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h). It also cannot provide intervention when the front camera is unable to identify usable lane markings or a clearly defined road edge.
  • Do not rely on the I-LI system under any of the following conditions, because warning and steering-assistance performance may be reduced, delayed, incorrect, or unavailable:
    • During adverse weather, including heavy rain, fog, snow, or other conditions that reduce forward visibility.
    • When driving on slippery surfaces covered with ice, snow, standing water, or other materials that reduce tire traction.
    • When traveling on winding, rough, uneven, or heavily undulating roads where the vehicle's path changes frequently.
    • Where a traffic lane has been closed, redirected, or partially obstructed because of construction, maintenance, or road repairs.
    • When driving in a temporary, makeshift, or construction-zone lane that does not follow normal permanent road markings.
    • On roads where the lane is unusually narrow and there is limited clearance between the Nissan Murano and the detected lane boundaries.
    • When the tires are not in normal operating condition, including excessive wear, low inflation pressure, installation of a spare tire, use of tire chains, or installation of nonstandard wheels.
    • When the vehicle is fitted with non-original brake, steering, or suspension components that may alter handling, alignment, ride height, or steering response.
    • When towing a trailer or another vehicle, because the added load and changed handling characteristics may affect system operation.
    • On roads with several parallel lane lines, faded or poorly painted markings, yellow markings, nonstandard lines, or lane boundaries covered by water, dirt, mud, snow, or other material.
    • On roads where the edge of the pavement or other road boundary is not clearly visible to the camera.
    • Where old, discontinued, partially removed, or obsolete lane markings remain visible and may be mistaken for the current lane boundaries.
    • On roads with sharp curves where the camera may not maintain a clear view of the lane ahead.
    • Where strongly contrasting patterns or objects appear on the road surface, including shadows, snow, standing water, wheel ruts, pavement joints, repair seams, or lines remaining after road work. The I-LI system may incorrectly interpret these features as lane markings.
    • Where the travel lane merges with another lane, divides into multiple lanes, or changes width abruptly.
    • When the direction of vehicle travel is not aligned with the detected lane marking, such as during an intentional lane change, evasive maneuver, or irregular approach to a curve.
    • When the Nissan Murano is traveling too close to the vehicle ahead and that vehicle blocks the lane camera's view of the road surface and lane boundaries.
    • When rain, snow, ice, dirt, or another obstruction adheres to the windshield in front of the lane camera unit.
    • When the headlights do not provide sufficient illumination because the lenses are dirty, the lamps are incorrectly aimed, or nighttime visibility is otherwise poor.
    • When intense light enters the lane camera directly, such as low sunlight shining toward the front of the vehicle at sunrise or sunset.
    • When surrounding brightness changes suddenly, including when the vehicle enters or exits a tunnel, passes beneath a bridge, or moves rapidly between bright sunlight and deep shadow.
  • The steering-wheel vibration may be weak, difficult to distinguish, or completely unnoticed depending on the road surface and the amount of vibration already being transmitted through the steering system. The driver must continue watching the road and must not rely solely on the vibration warning.

While the I-LI system is providing assistance, a sound associated with brake or control-system operation may be heard. This is a normal characteristic of the system and indicates that the Nissan Murano is applying the control needed to support brief lane intervention; it does not indicate a malfunction.
