Basic Information

WARNING Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for the proper use of the I-DA system could result in loss of vehicle control, serious injury, or death.

  • The I-DA system only provides a warning when it identifies signs that may indicate reduced driver attention or drowsiness. It cannot steer the Nissan Murano, apply corrective control, or prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.
  • The I-DA system cannot detect every instance of driver inattention, fatigue, or drowsiness and may not provide an alert in every driving situation. Never rely on the system as a substitute for attentive driving.
  • The driver is always responsible for the following:
    • Remaining alert and attentive to traffic, road, and weather conditions.
    • Driving safely and adjusting speed and vehicle operation to current conditions.
    • Keeping the vehicle properly positioned within the traveling lane.
    • Maintaining full control of the vehicle at all times.
    • Avoiding driving when tired, drowsy, or unable to concentrate fully.
    • Avoiding distractions, including texting or using devices that take attention away from driving.

The Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system is designed to notify the driver when it detects driving behavior that may indicate reduced attention or increasing fatigue. The warning is intended to encourage the driver to evaluate their condition and take an appropriate break when necessary.

The system observes the driver’s steering behavior and overall driving style over a period of time, establishing a normal operating pattern for the current trip. It then monitors for noticeable changes from that pattern. If the system determines that the driver’s attention may be gradually decreasing, it uses both an audible chime and a visual message to suggest stopping in a safe location and taking a break.

If the system detects signs of driver fatigue or determines that attention may be decreasing, the “Take a break?” message appears in the vehicle information display and a warning chime sounds. This alert can be provided while the Nissan Murano is traveling at speeds above 37 mph (60 km/h).

The system continuously evaluates driver attention while the vehicle is being operated and may issue the warning more than once during the same trip if the monitored driving behavior continues to indicate reduced attention or fatigue.

The I-DA system resets its assessment when the ignition switch is moved from the ON position to the OFF position and then returned to the ON position. After the ignition is switched on again, the system begins a new evaluation of the driver’s steering behavior and driving style.
