Parking/parking on hills

WARNING

• Never stop or park the vehicle over flammable materials such as dry grass, discarded paper, cloth, or similar debris. Hot vehicle components may ignite these materials and cause a fire.
• Safe parking requires firmly applying the parking brake and placing the transmission in the P (Park) position.

  Failure to complete both steps may allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly or roll away, potentially resulting in a collision, property damage, serious injury, or death.

• Confirm that the transmission cannot be shifted out of P (Park) unless the foot brake pedal is depressed. If the shift mechanism does not operate as intended, have the vehicle inspected.
• Never leave the engine running when the Nissan Murano is unattended, even when the transmission is in P (Park) and the parking brake is applied.
• Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They may unintentionally operate switches, controls, or the transmission and cause the vehicle to move. Such actions could lead to a serious accident.
• To reduce the risk of injury or death caused by unintended operation of the vehicle or its systems, never leave children, individuals who require assistance, or pets unattended inside the vehicle. On a warm day, the temperature inside a closed vehicle can rise rapidly and become dangerous or fatal within a short period.

1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop and firmly apply the parking brake.

2. Press the P (Park) button to shift the transmission into the P (Park) position. Confirm that P is selected before releasing the foot brake pedal.

3. When parking the Nissan Murano on an incline, position the front wheels as illustrated to help prevent the vehicle from rolling into traffic if it begins to move unexpectedly.

• HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB A: Turn the front wheels toward the curb. Move the vehicle forward slowly until the curb-side wheel gently contacts the curb, without striking it forcefully.
• HEADED UPHILL WITH CURB B: Turn the front wheels away from the curb. Allow the vehicle to move backward carefully until the curb-side wheel gently contacts the curb.
• HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, NO CURB C: Turn the front wheels toward the side of the road. If the vehicle begins to roll, this wheel position helps direct it away from the center of the roadway and moving traffic.

4. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position before leaving the vehicle. Confirm that the vehicle is secure and that all occupants have exited safely.

NOTE: Use the Idling Stop System when the vehicle remains stopped temporarily, such as while waiting at a traffic light. When parking or leaving the vehicle stationary for an extended period, turn off the engine using the ignition switch rather than relying on the Idling Stop System.

Electric power steering

WARNING

• If the engine is not running or is switched off while the vehicle is moving, electric steering assistance will not operate.

  The driver can still steer the vehicle, but considerably more effort will be required to turn the steering wheel.

• If the electric power steering warning light illuminates while the engine is running, steering assistance may be reduced or may stop operating.

  Directional control remains available, but the steering wheel will require greater effort, particularly at low speeds and during sharp turns.

The electric power steering system provides steering assistance while the Nissan Murano is being driven, allowing the steering wheel to be operated with less physical effort. The amount of assistance supports easier maneuvering while preserving predictable steering control.

When SPORT mode is selected, the amount of steering effort is moderately increased to provide a firmer, sportier steering feel. For additional information about this setting and its operation, see “SPORT mode.”

If the steering wheel is turned repeatedly or held near its full turning position for an extended period while parking or driving at very low speed, the level of electric power assistance may be temporarily reduced.

This reduction protects the electric power steering system from overheating and possible damage. While assistance is limited, the steering wheel will feel heavier and require more effort to operate. Once the electric power steering system cools, normal assistance will return automatically.

Avoid repeatedly turning the steering wheel back and forth or maintaining continuous steering input when it is not necessary, particularly during prolonged low-speed maneuvering. Such operation can raise the system temperature and temporarily reduce steering assistance.

A sound may be heard when the steering wheel is turned quickly. This can occur during normal electric power steering operation and does not necessarily indicate a malfunction.

If the electric power steering warning light illuminates while the engine is running, the system may not be operating correctly and could require service. Have the electric power steering system inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service. When the warning light is illuminated, power assistance may be reduced or unavailable. The Nissan Murano will remain steerable, but substantially greater effort may be needed, especially while parking, traveling at low speed, or making a sharp turn.
