WARNING

• Do not continue driving if your Nissan Murano overheats. Continued operation may cause severe engine damage and could create a risk of fire.
• To prevent serious burns, never remove the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system may remain pressurized, and removing either cap can cause extremely hot coolant and steam to escape forcefully.
• Do not open the hood while steam is coming from the engine compartment.

If the Nissan Murano begins to overheat, as indicated by an extremely high temperature gauge reading, a noticeable loss of engine power, unusual noise, or another abnormal condition, remain calm and follow these steps carefully:

1. Move the vehicle safely away from the roadway and passing traffic, stop on a suitable surface, and apply the parking brake securely.

2. Press the park button to place the shift position in P (Park).

Do not stop the engine at this stage.

3. Switch off the air conditioner. Open all windows, set the heater or air conditioner temperature control to the maximum hot setting, and operate the fan at high speed. This allows additional engine heat to be transferred through the passenger-compartment heating system.

4. Exit the vehicle carefully. Before opening the hood, look and listen for steam or coolant escaping from the radiator or engine compartment. If steam or coolant is escaping, turn off the engine immediately.

Do not open the hood further until all visible steam or escaping coolant has stopped.

5. Once no steam or coolant is visible, open the engine hood carefully.

WARNING If steam or hot coolant is coming from the engine compartment, remain at a safe distance to avoid being burned or scalded.

6. Visually inspect the drive belts for looseness, breakage, or other visible damage. Check whether the engine cooling fan is operating, and inspect the radiator hoses and radiator for signs of coolant leakage. If coolant is leaking, the water pump belt is missing or loose, or the cooling fan is not operating, turn off the engine.

WARNING Keep your hands, hair, jewelry, clothing, and tools away from the engine belts and cooling fan. These moving components can cause serious injury, and the engine cooling fan may start unexpectedly at any time.

7. After the engine has cooled, check the coolant level in the engine coolant reservoir tank while the engine is running. Add coolant to the reservoir tank if necessary, taking care to follow the required precautions for a hot cooling system. Have the cause of the overheating inspected and repaired before returning the Nissan Murano to normal use.
