Windshield wiper blades

Cleaning

If the windshield remains unclear after operating the washer system, or if a wiper blade chatters, skips, or moves unevenly across the glass, wax, dirt, or another contaminant may be present on the windshield or blade surface.

Clean the outside of the windshield thoroughly with windshield-washer solution or a mild detergent mixed with water. The glass is considered clean when clear rinse water spreads evenly across the surface instead of forming beads.

Clean each wiper blade by gently wiping the rubber edge with a soft cloth soaked in windshield-washer solution or a mild detergent solution.

Rinse the blades thoroughly with clean water after wiping them. If the windshield still cannot be cleared properly after the glass and blades have been cleaned, replace the worn or damaged wiper blades.

CAUTION Worn or damaged windshield wiper blades may scratch the windshield and reduce the driver's visibility, particularly during rain or other poor-weather conditions.

Replacing

Basic information

Replace the windshield wiper blades when they become worn, damaged, cracked, or unable to clear the glass effectively.

To replace the windshield wiper blades on the Nissan Murano, follow the procedure below:

1. Carefully lift the wiper arm away from the windshield while supporting it securely.

2. Press release tab A to unlock the blade from the wiper arm.

3. Slide wiper blade B upward in the illustrated direction, then remove it from the arm.

4. Insert the new wiper blade into the wiper arm and move it into position until it clicks securely into place.

5. Carefully lower the wiper arm until the new blade rests against the windshield.

CAUTION

• After replacing the wiper blade, return the wiper arm to its normal position against the windshield. Leaving the arm raised may cause it to be damaged when the hood is opened.
• Make sure each wiper blade rests fully against the glass. If the blade is not positioned correctly, wind pressure while driving may damage the wiper arm or blade assembly.

When waxing the hood surface, prevent wax from entering washer nozzle D. Wax inside the nozzle may cause a blockage or interfere with proper windshield-washer operation. If the nozzle becomes obstructed by wax, carefully remove the material with needle or small pin C.

Rear window wiper blade

Replace the rear window wiper blade when it is worn, damaged, or no longer clears the rear glass effectively.

To replace the rear wiper blade, follow the procedure below:

1. Move the rear wiper into its service position by pushing the washer switch forward twice within one second while the ignition is in the OFF position.

2. Press wiper blade release tabs A inward, then rotate the blade downward toward the rear window. Pull the blade away from the wiper arm, and carefully lower the arm toward the glass without allowing it to strike the window.

3. To install the replacement blade, hold it at the illustrated angle and connect the wiper blade body to the wiper arm as shown at B.

4. Rotate the blade upward into the arm until release tabs A are fully seated and the blade is locked securely in place.

5. Push the rear wiper switch forward once, or operate the rear wiper, to return the rear wiper arm to its normal operating position.

Brakes

Basic information

If the brakes do not operate normally, respond inconsistently, or show any other sign of improper performance, have the brake system inspected promptly. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

Self-adjusting brakes

The Nissan Murano is equipped with a self-adjusting brake system.

The front and rear disc brakes adjust automatically during normal brake pedal operation, helping maintain the correct relationship between the brake pads and discs as wear occurs.

WARNING Have the brake system checked if the brake pedal does not return to its normal height after being released. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for inspection and service.

Brake pad wear indicators

The disc brake pads are equipped with audible wear indicators. When a brake pad has worn to the point that replacement is required, a high-pitched scraping or screeching sound may be heard while the Nissan Murano is moving. The sound may occur whether or not the brake pedal is being pressed. Have the brakes inspected as soon as possible after hearing the wear indicator.

Under certain weather or driving conditions, the brakes may occasionally produce a squeak, squeal, or similar sound. Brief brake noise during light or moderate stops can be normal and does not necessarily indicate reduced brake system performance.

Follow the specified brake inspection intervals to ensure that pad wear and overall brake condition are checked regularly. Refer to the applicable maintenance schedule in the "Maintenance and schedules" section of this manual for additional inspection information.
