Liftgate release

Basic information

WARNING

  • Before driving, always make sure the liftgate is completely closed and securely latched. An improperly closed liftgate could open unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving.
  • Never drive with the liftgate open. Exhaust gases could be drawn into the passenger compartment, creating a serious risk to vehicle occupants.
  • To prevent personal injury, do not attempt to activate the power liftgate when either one or both of the liftgate struts have been removed.

CAUTION

  • If the power liftgate will not remain open, or if it closes unexpectedly while a continuous warning chime is sounding, stop operating it. Pressure may have been lost in one or both liftgate struts. Have the liftgate inspected as soon as possible; it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
  • Do not activate the power liftgate while one or both liftgate struts are removed. Operating the system in this condition may damage the liftgate or its powered mechanisms.

Interior emergency liftgate release lever for opening the rear liftgate with a discharged battery

Liftgate release

The interior liftgate release mechanism allows the liftgate to be opened manually when the vehicle battery is discharged and the normal electrical release functions are unavailable.

To release and open the liftgate from inside the vehicle, perform the following steps:

1. Move release lever A in the direction shown in the illustration to disengage the liftgate latch.

2. Push the liftgate upward carefully until it opens. Maintain control of the liftgate as it rises.

NOTE: If the liftgate had to be opened using this emergency procedure, have the Nissan Murano inspected as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

Liftgate position setting

Power liftgate close switch used to program the garage mode opening height

The power liftgate can be programmed to stop at a selected opening height, sometimes referred to as garage mode. This setting can help limit liftgate travel where overhead clearance is restricted.

1. Open the liftgate using the instrument panel liftgate switch, the exterior liftgate opener switch, or the liftgate button on the Intelligent Key.

2. Pull the liftgate downward and manually move it to the desired opening height. Some resistance may be felt while repositioning the powered liftgate by hand.

3. Press and hold power liftgate close switch B, located on the liftgate, for more than 3 seconds or until two confirmation beeps are heard.

After the position has been stored, the liftgate will open to the selected height during subsequent powered operation. To select a different opening position, repeat steps 1 through 3 and save the new liftgate height.
