Opening the fuel-filler door

To open the fuel-filler door, press the right side of the door inward until the release mechanism disengages. The fuel-filler door can then be opened to access the capless refueling system of the Nissan Murano.

WARNING

• Gasoline is extremely flammable and can become highly explosive under certain conditions. Improper handling may cause severe burns or other serious injuries. Always stop the engine before refueling, and never smoke or allow open flames, sparks, or other ignition sources near the vehicle or fueling area.
• Do not continue adding fuel after the pump nozzle shuts off automatically. Attempting to top off the tank may cause gasoline to overflow or spray from the filler opening, creating a risk of fire and personal injury.
• Never pour gasoline into the throttle body in an attempt to start the engine. Fuel must be added only through the designated fuel-filler opening.
• Never fill a portable fuel container while it is inside the vehicle or on a trailer. Static electricity may ignite flammable fuel, vapor, or gas and cause an explosion. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death when filling a portable fuel container:
  • Place the container securely on the ground before filling it.
  • Do not use electronic devices while fuel is being dispensed.
  • Keep the fuel pump nozzle in continuous contact with the container during filling.
  • Use only an approved portable container designed for flammable liquids.

CAUTION

• Do not use fuel containing more than 15% ethanol in the Nissan Murano.
• If gasoline is spilled on the vehicle body, rinse the affected area promptly with water to help prevent damage to the paint finish.

How to refuel

The fuel tank is equipped with a capless fuel-filler system and does not use a conventional fuel cap. After opening the fuel-filler door, insert a standard fuel pump nozzle directly into the filler opening. When the nozzle is removed, the internal flaps close automatically and seal the opening.

To begin refueling, insert the fuel pump nozzle slowly and fully into the fuel-filler opening before activating the pump. Proper insertion allows the nozzle to pass through the internal sealing flaps without damaging them.

Keep the nozzle steady and fully inserted throughout the refueling process. Do not move, tilt, or partially withdraw it while fuel is being dispensed.

When the pump nozzle shuts off automatically for the first time, stop refueling. Wait approximately 5 seconds before slowly withdrawing the nozzle from the fuel-filler opening.

After the nozzle has been removed, close the fuel-filler door securely.

When gasoline must be added from a portable fuel container, use the funnel supplied with the Nissan Murano rather than inserting the container nozzle directly into the capless filler opening.

CAUTION

• Do not attempt to force open the internal flaps of the fuel-filler opening with a tool or any object other than a suitable fuel pump nozzle.
• The capless fuel-filler opening is designed for standard fuel pump nozzles used at service stations. A nozzle with a smaller diameter may damage the filler opening or other parts of the fuel system.
• If gasoline is spilled on the vehicle body, rinse it away promptly with water to help protect the paint finish.

• Do not attempt to add more fuel after the pump nozzle shuts off automatically. Continued filling may cause gasoline to overflow or spray from the filler opening, increasing the possibility of fire.
• Never pour fuel into the throttle body in an attempt to start the vehicle.
• Do not fill a portable fuel container while it is positioned inside the vehicle or on a trailer. Static electricity may ignite flammable liquid or vapor and cause an explosion. When filling a portable fuel container:
  • Always place the container on the ground before dispensing fuel.
  • Do not operate electronic devices during filling.
  • Maintain contact between the pump nozzle and the container while fuel is flowing.
  • Use only an approved portable container intended for flammable liquids.

When refueling from a portable fuel container

If the vehicle must be refueled from a portable fuel container, use funnel A supplied with the vehicle. The funnel is stored in the cargo area beneath the luggage board.

Insert the funnel slowly and completely into the fuel-filler opening so that it passes through the internal flaps correctly. Place the nozzle of the portable fuel container into the funnel, and then carefully add fuel to the tank without moving or dislodging the funnel.

After refueling, withdraw the portable container nozzle and remove the funnel from the fuel-filler opening. Wipe the funnel clean before returning it to the tool bag in its designated storage location.

CAUTION

• Do not insert the nozzle of a portable fuel container directly into the capless fuel-filler opening. Direct insertion may damage the internal flaps, filler opening, or fuel system.
• Use only the funnel supplied with the vehicle. A funnel of a different size or design may damage the fuel-filler opening or other components of the fuel system.
