Steering Assist with HD map data (a feature of ProPILOT Assist 2.1)

Nissan Murano / Nissan Murano (Z53, 2025-2026) Owner's Manual / Starting and driving / ProPILOT Assist Systems / Steering Assist with HD map data (a feature of ProPILOT Assist 2.1)

On a vehicle equipped with ProPILOT Assist 2.1, the ProPILOT Assist 2.1 mode indicator turns blue when all conditions required for Hands Off operation have been satisfied.

When ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is operating with blue indicators, the driver may remove their hands from the steering wheel only when traffic, roadway, weather, and other surrounding conditions make it safe, and when permitted by all applicable laws and regulations. Even during Hands Off operation, the driver must remain attentive to the road ahead, surrounding traffic, and the behavior of the Nissan Murano.

The driver can override the system at any time by steering manually. Whenever ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is active, remain prepared to take immediate control of steering and braking if the system requests driver intervention or if road and traffic conditions change.

For ProPILOT Assist 2.1 to operate with blue indicators, all of the following requirements must be satisfied. Hands Off operation may become unavailable or cancel automatically if one or more of these conditions are no longer met:

  • ProPILOT Assist is active, and the system initially detects the driver's hands on the steering wheel.
  • The vehicle is traveling on a highway or limited-access freeway identified as such by the HD map data.
  • The camera, radar, and GNSS sensors are operating correctly and are not obstructed, contaminated, or damaged.
  • The driver monitoring system determines that the driver is attentive and looking toward the road ahead.
  • Current driving, roadway, traffic, and surrounding conditions permit the feature to operate safely.
  • Lane markings are clearly visible and can be detected reliably by the system.
  • The vehicle is traveling at a speed below 85 MPH (137 km/h).

WARNING The driver is always responsible for operating the vehicle legally and complying with all applicable local and state traffic laws and regulations.

Some local or state regulations may require the driver to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times. Remove your hands from the wheel only when Hands Off operation is permitted by law, the ProPILOT Assist 2.1 indicators are blue, and current conditions make it safe to do so. The driver remains responsible for the Nissan Murano at all times.

How to enable/disable Hands Off mode:

Vehicle information display

1. Press the Nissan Murano steering wheel menu button for accessing Hands Off mode settings button on the steering wheel repeatedly until "Settings" appears in the vehicle information display.

3. Use the scroll dial to select "Lane Centering Assist." Then press the OK button to display the available lane-centering options.

4. Use the scroll dial to select "Hands Off Mode", and then press the OK button to switch the feature on or off. Confirm the selected setting in the vehicle information display before returning to the main screen.

WARNING Immediately place your hands on the steering wheel and take control when the ProPILOT Assist 2.1 display changes from blue to green.

Steering Assist with HD map data is not available or may cancel if any of the following conditions are met, but not limited to:

  • When the vehicle approaches a toll gate, exit, junction, sharp curve, intersection, lane merge, or another roadway area where additional driver control may be required.
  • When the vehicle approaches a road that is not classified as a highway or limited-access freeway in the HD map data, when the required HD map information is unavailable, or when the system determines that the map data does not match the current roadway.
  • When GNSS signals cannot be received reliably, including while traveling through a tunnel.
  • When driving on a road that is not physically separated from opposing traffic.
  • When the driver presses the accelerator pedal or actively operates the steering wheel.
  • When traveling through a construction zone.
  • When the driver monitoring camera cannot determine that the driver is paying careful attention to the road ahead.
  • When the driver's face is not directed toward the road, even if the driver's eyes appear to be looking forward.
  • When the camera installed on the steering column cannot obtain a clear view of the driver's face. This may occur when the face is blocked by a hand or when the driver's seating position or posture makes the face difficult for the camera to observe.
  • When the shape of the driver's mouth, nose, or face cannot be identified clearly because of a mask, eyeglasses, sunglasses, or another obstruction.
  • When the driver narrows or closes their eyes because of bright sunlight or similar lighting conditions.
  • When the windshield wipers are operating at high speed.
  • When Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection and/or the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system activates.
