Checking engine oil level
1. Park the Nissan Murano on a firm, level surface and apply the parking brake securely. A level position is necessary for an accurate engine oil reading.
2. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it reaches its normal operating temperature.
3. Turn off the engine and wait more than 10 minutes. This allows the engine oil to drain back into the oil pan before the level is measured.
4. Pull out the engine oil dipstick and wipe it thoroughly with a clean cloth.
Reinsert the dipstick fully into its tube so the subsequent reading accurately reflects the oil level.
5. Remove the dipstick again and examine the oil level. The oil should be between the H (High) and L (Low) marks B, which represents the normal operating range. If the level is below the L (Low) mark A, remove the oil filler cap and add the recommended engine oil through the filler opening. Add oil gradually and do not fill above the permitted range C.
6. Reinsert and remove the dipstick once more to verify the oil level after adding oil. Repeat the check as necessary until the reading is within the normal range.
It may be normal for the engine to require some additional oil between scheduled oil maintenance intervals or during the break-in period. The amount used can vary according to the severity of operating conditions.
CAUTION Check the engine oil level regularly to confirm that the correct amount of oil remains in the engine.
Operating the Nissan Murano engine with insufficient oil may cause serious engine damage. Damage resulting from an inadequate oil level is not covered by the vehicle warranty.
