WARNING If tire chains are used on the Nissan Murano, they must provide sufficient clearance between the tire and the nearest suspension, brake, or body component. Using chains of the wrong size or type, or installing them incorrectly, may damage the brakes, suspension, underbody, or other vehicle parts. This damage could affect vehicle control and lead to a collision in which occupants or other road users may be seriously injured or killed.

The use of tire chains may be restricted or prohibited in certain locations, so check all applicable local laws before installation. Select chains that are the correct size for the tires installed on the vehicle, and follow the chain manufacturer’s installation instructions carefully. Use only SAE Class “S” chains. Class “S” chains are intended for vehicles with limited clearance between the tires and nearby suspension or body components.

Vehicles approved for Class “S” chains are designed to provide the minimum clearance required between the factory-size tire and the closest suspension or body component when a winter traction device, such as tire chains or cables, is installed. This limited clearance makes correct chain selection and secure installation especially important on the Nissan Murano.

The required minimum clearances are based on the factory-equipped tire size. Chains with a different profile, construction, or clearance requirement may contact and damage the vehicle. When recommended by the tire chain manufacturer, install suitable chain tensioners to keep the chains properly seated and tight against the tire.

Any loose chain links or unsecured ends must be fastened or removed to prevent them from striking the fenders, wheel wells, brake components, or underbody while the vehicle is moving. After installation, verify that the chains are evenly positioned and remain clear of surrounding components. If possible, avoid carrying the maximum permitted load while tire chains are installed, as additional vehicle weight can reduce available clearance.

Drive the Nissan Murano at a reduced speed whenever tire chains are fitted, and follow any speed limitation specified by the chain manufacturer. Accelerate, steer, and brake smoothly to reduce stress on the chains and vehicle components. Excessive speed or abrupt maneuvers may damage the vehicle and adversely affect steering response, ride quality, traction, and overall handling.

Do not use tire chains on dry pavement. Chains are intended only for road surfaces where additional winter traction is required. Driving with chains on clear, dry roads may create excessive vibration and stress, accelerate chain and tire wear, and damage the suspension, drivetrain, wheel wells, or other vehicle mechanisms.
