1. SRS Air bag warning labels
   The warning labels are located on the surface of the sun visor, where they can be seen by occupants before using the front seating area. These labels provide important reminders about the Supplemental Restraint System and child restraint precautions.

Warning labels about the supplemental front-impact air bag system are placed in the vehicle as shown in the illustration. In the Nissan Murano, these labels are intended to draw attention to critical safety information that must be followed before a child restraint is installed or before a passenger rides in a seat protected by a front air bag.

WARNING Do not use a rear-facing child restraint on a seat protected by an air bag in front of it. If the air bag deploys, it may cause serious injury or death. A rear-facing child restraint places the child too close to the deployment path of the front air bag, and the force of inflation can be extremely dangerous.

Supplemental air bag warning light

Basic Information

The supplemental air bag warning light, displaying in the instrument panel, monitors the circuits for the air bag systems, pretensioner(s) and all related wiring. This warning light helps alert the driver if the Supplemental Restraint System detects a condition that may require inspection or service.

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the supplemental air bag warning light illuminates for about 7 seconds and then turns off. This means the system is operational and has completed its initial check. In the Nissan Murano, this brief illumination is a normal part of the start-up sequence and should not be confused with a system fault when it turns off as described.

If any of the following conditions occur, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag and pretensioner systems need servicing:

• The supplemental air bag warning light remains on after approximately 7 seconds, instead of turning off after the initial system check.
• The supplemental air bag warning light flashes intermittently, which may indicate that the system has detected an irregular condition.
• The supplemental air bag warning light does not come on at all when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position.

Under these conditions, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag or pretensioner systems may not operate properly. They must be checked and repaired before the vehicle is relied on for normal restraint system performance. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service so the system can be inspected with the proper diagnostic equipment and service procedure.

WARNING If the supplemental air bag warning light is on, it could mean that the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag and/or pretensioner systems will not operate in an accident. To help avoid injury to yourself or others, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.

Repair and replacement procedure

The front air bags, side air bags, curtain air bags, knee air bags and pretensioner(s) are designed to inflate or activate on a one-time-only basis. Once any of these components has deployed, it is no longer capable of providing the same protection again and must be handled according to the required repair procedure.

As a reminder, unless it is damaged, the supplemental air bag warning light remains illuminated after inflation has occurred. This helps indicate that the Supplemental Restraint System has been activated and that service is required.

These systems should be repaired and/or replaced as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service, because air bag modules, pretensioners and related SRS components require correct parts, handling and diagnostic procedures.

When maintenance work is required on the vehicle, the front air bags, side air bags, curtain air bags, knee air bags, pretensioner(s) and related parts should be pointed out to the person performing the maintenance. This is especially important when work is being done near the instrument panel, seats, seat belts, steering wheel, side panels, roof rails or electrical wiring in the Nissan Murano.

The ignition switch should always be in the LOCK position when working under the hood or inside the vehicle. This precaution helps reduce the chance of accidental system activation or unintended electrical interaction with SRS-related components during maintenance.

WARNING

• Once a front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, or knee air bag has inflated, the air bag module will not function again and must be replaced.

  Additionally, the activated pretensioner(s) must also be replaced. The air bag module and pretensioner(s) should be replaced. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service. However, the air bag module and pretensioner(s) cannot be repaired, rebuilt, or reused after activation.

• The front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, knee air bag systems and the pretensioner system should be inspected if there is any damage to the front end or side portion of the vehicle. Even if damage appears minor, the force of an impact may affect sensors, wiring, mounting points, or other SRS components. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
• If you need to dispose of a supplemental air bag or pretensioner systems or scrap the vehicle, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer. Incorrect disposal procedures could cause personal injury because these components may contain activation devices that require special handling.
• If there is an impact to your Nissan Murano from any direction, your Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) should be checked to verify it is still functioning correctly. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

  The OCS should be checked even if no air bags deploy as a result of the impact. Failure to verify proper OCS function may result in improper air bag deployment or suppression, which could lead to injury or death in a later collision.
