Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Basic Information
Check every tire, including the spare tire if one is provided, at least once a month while the tires are cold. Inflate each tire to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label. If the Nissan Murano is fitted with tires of a different size from the size listed on that label or placard, determine the correct inflation pressure for the installed tires before driving. As an additional safety feature, the vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which illuminates the low tire pressure warning light when one or more tires become significantly underinflated.
If the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, stop the vehicle in a safe location and inspect the tires as soon as possible. Check each tire with an accurate pressure gauge and inflate it to the specified pressure. Driving on a significantly underinflated tire generates excessive heat and may lead to tire failure. Insufficient pressure can also reduce fuel efficiency, shorten tread life, and negatively affect the handling, stability, and braking performance of the Nissan Murano.
The TPMS does not replace regular tire inspection or proper maintenance. The driver remains responsible for maintaining the correct inflation pressure in every tire, even when pressure loss has not yet reached the level required to activate the low tire pressure warning light. Visual inspection alone is not sufficient for determining whether a tire is correctly inflated.
The vehicle is also equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator that alerts the driver when the monitoring system is not operating correctly.
The TPMS malfunction indicator uses the same warning light as the low tire pressure indication.
When the system detects a malfunction, the warning light flashes for approximately one minute and then remains continuously illuminated.
This sequence repeats during subsequent vehicle start-ups for as long as the malfunction remains present. While the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the TPMS may be unable to detect or report low tire pressure as intended. A malfunction can occur for several reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternative tires or wheels that are incompatible with the monitoring system or interfere with its proper operation.
After replacing one or more tires or wheels, always observe the TPMS malfunction indicator and confirm that it does not remain illuminated. This helps verify that the installed tires and wheels allow the Tire Pressure Monitoring System to continue operating correctly on the Nissan Murano.
Additional information:
- When a wheel without a TPMS sensor is installed, such as a spare tire without monitoring equipment, the system cannot measure or display the pressure of that tire.
- The TPMS begins operating only after the vehicle is driven at a speed above 16 mph (25 km/h). The system may also be unable to detect an immediate loss of pressure, such as a tire that suddenly becomes flat while the vehicle is moving.
- The low tire pressure warning light does not switch off immediately after tire pressure is corrected. After inflating the affected tire to the recommended cold pressure, drive the vehicle at a speed above 16 mph (25 km/h) to activate the TPMS and allow the warning light to turn off. Always use a tire pressure gauge to confirm the actual pressure.
- The "Tire Pressure Low-Add Air" warning appears in the vehicle information display when low tire pressure is detected and the low tire pressure warning light is illuminated. The message disappears after the tire pressure condition has been corrected and the warning light turns off.
- The "Tire Pressure Low-Add Air" warning is displayed each time the ignition switch is placed in the ON position for as long as the low tire pressure warning light remains illuminated.
- The "Tire Pressure Low-Add Air" message is not displayed when the low tire pressure warning light is illuminated because of a TPMS malfunction rather than an underinflated tire.
- Tire pressure naturally rises as the tires warm during driving and falls as they cool or when the outside temperature decreases. Do not release air from warm tires immediately after driving simply because the measured pressure is higher, as this increase is a normal result of tire heating.

Low outside temperatures can reduce the temperature of the air inside each tire, causing the measured inflation pressure to decrease. This normal temperature-related pressure change may illuminate the low tire pressure warning light even when no tire damage is visible. If the warning appears, check the pressure in all four tires with an accurate gauge and adjust them to the recommended cold inflation pressure when necessary.
- The Tire and Loading Information label is located in the driver's door opening. Refer to this label for the recommended COLD tire pressure specified for the Nissan Murano.
- The pressure of all installed road tires, excluding the spare tire, can also be viewed on the vehicle information display. The sequence of pressure readings shown on the screen corresponds to the actual position of each tire on the vehicle, allowing the driver to identify which tire requires attention.
WARNING
- Radio waves may adversely affect electric medical equipment. Anyone who uses a pacemaker or another applicable medical device should contact the equipment manufacturer before using the vehicle to determine whether radio signals could influence its operation.
- If the low tire pressure warning light illuminates while driving, avoid sudden steering inputs and hard
braking. Reduce vehicle speed gradually, move off the roadway to a safe location, and stop the Nissan
Murano as soon as conditions permit.
Continuing to drive with significantly underinflated tires can cause permanent tire damage, excessive heat buildup, and an increased risk of tire failure.
A tire failure may cause serious vehicle damage, contribute to loss of control, and lead to a collision resulting in serious personal injury.
Check the inflation pressure of all four tires and adjust each one to the recommended COLD pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label. Correcting the pressure allows the TPMS warning light to turn off after the required operating conditions are met. If a tire is flat, use the emergency tire puncture repair kit, if so equipped, as soon as possible, or install the spare tire, if provided, without unnecessary delay.
- When a wheel without a TPMS sensor is installed, including a spare tire without monitoring equipment, the pressure for that tire will not be displayed and the TPMS will not operate normally. After a spare tire is fitted or a wheel is replaced, the low tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately one minute and then remain illuminated. Have the tire replaced or repaired and the TPMS restored or reset as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
- Installing tires that are not specified for the Nissan Murano may interfere with correct TPMS operation. Replacement tires and wheels must be compatible with the tire pressure monitoring equipment.
- Do not inject liquid tire repair products or aerosol tire sealants into the tires unless specifically permitted for the applicable repair equipment. These substances may damage or interfere with the tire pressure sensors and cause a TPMS malfunction.
- To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, check the inflation pressure in every tire during routine maintenance and whenever a TPMS warning is displayed. Do not assume that only one tire requires attention. Driving with underinflated tires can lead to tire failure and may adversely affect the operation of other vehicle systems.
CAUTION
- The TPMS may not operate correctly when tire chains are installed on the wheels or when the wheels are deeply covered or surrounded by snow. These conditions can interfere with communication between the tire pressure sensors and the monitoring system.
- Do not apply metalized window film or attach metal components, including antennas, to the windows of the Nissan Murano. Metallic materials may weaken reception of the radio signals transmitted by the tire pressure sensors and prevent the TPMS from functioning as intended.
Certain electronic devices, radio transmitters, and nearby facilities may temporarily interfere with TPMS operation. This interference can interrupt communication with the tire pressure sensors and may cause the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate even when tire pressure has not changed significantly.
Possible sources of temporary interference include:
- Facilities or electrical equipment operating on radio frequencies similar to those used by the TPMS are located near the vehicle.
- A radio transmitter using a similar frequency is operating inside or close to the Nissan Murano.
- A computer, comparable electronic device, or DC/AC power converter is being used in or near the vehicle.
The low tire pressure warning light may also illuminate under any of the following conditions:
- The vehicle is fitted with a wheel and tire assembly that does not include a compatible TPMS sensor.
- A TPMS sensor has been replaced, but its identification code has not been registered with the vehicle.
- A wheel not originally specified by NISSAN has been installed and is not fully compatible with the TPMS.

TPMS with Easy-Fill Tire Alert
When air is added to an underinflated tire, the TPMS with Easy-Fill Tire Alert uses visual and audible signals outside the Nissan Murano to help bring the tire to the recommended COLD inflation pressure. The hazard indicators and horn provide confirmation during inflation, reducing the need to repeatedly check the pressure while the system is operating.
Vehicle set-up
1. Park the Nissan Murano on a safe, firm, and level surface where the tires can be accessed without exposure to moving traffic.
2. Apply the parking brake securely and move the shift position to P (Park).
3. Place the ignition switch in the ON position so the TPMS can monitor the tire being inflated.
Do not start the engine while using the Easy-Fill Tire Alert procedure.
Operation
1. Begin adding air to the underinflated tire.
2. After several seconds, the hazard indicators will begin flashing to confirm that the Easy-Fill Tire Alert has detected the inflation process.
3. When the tire reaches the designated pressure, the horn sounds once and the hazard indicators stop flashing. This signal indicates that inflation should be stopped.
4. Repeat the same procedure for each tire that requires pressure adjustment.
- If a tire is overinflated by more than approximately 4 psi (30 kPa), the horn sounds and the hazard indicators flash three times. To reduce the pressure, briefly press the valve-stem core to release a small amount of air. When the tire returns to the designated pressure, the horn sounds once to confirm the correct setting.
- If the hazard indicators do not begin flashing within approximately 15 seconds after inflation starts, the Easy-Fill Tire Alert is not operating. Stop relying on the alert and verify the tire pressure with a suitable gauge.
- The TPMS will not activate the Easy-Fill Tire Alert under any of the following conditions:
- An external electronic device or radio transmitter is interfering with communication between the tire pressure sensor and the vehicle.
- The inflation device does not provide enough air pressure to increase the tire pressure.
- A malfunction is present in the TPMS.
- The horn or hazard indicators are not operating correctly.
- The identification code of the tire pressure sensor has not been registered with the system.
- The battery inside the tire pressure sensor is low.
- If radio interference prevents the Easy-Fill Tire Alert from operating, move the Nissan Murano approximately 3 ft (1 m) forward or backward, then repeat the inflation procedure. Changing the vehicle's position may reduce the surrounding interference.
If the Easy-Fill Tire Alert remains unavailable, use an accurate tire pressure gauge to inflate every tire to the recommended COLD pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label.
